This adorable little donkey was one of my samples from the 'Blossoms and Brays' quilt. I hand stitched the outline of the donkey using a backstitch stitch in a black embroidery floss. Once the outline was done I took the long process of stitching all the flowers inside the wee donkey and along with this added some beading accents for an extra textural contrast.

I liked the concept of merging the playful and fun shape of a donkey foal with the bright beautiful florals.

For the background I used a watery watercolour wash to set the scene and at the foals hoof, I added some extra flowers to view as if the foal is running through a summer floral field.

The piece is finished with a woodgrain flexi embroidery hoop and is named Felicity (named after one of my adopted donkeys!)
